This accessbility statement applies to the Forensic Capability Network website.

This website is run by Forensic Capability Network.  We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

This website has been designed to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard.

We have tested it using automated tools such as WAVE and carried out a basic internal test against these standards.  We are currently assessing whether a formal accessibility audit is required to establish compliance given the size and temporary nature of the website.

Forensic Capability Network is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website has been designed to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standard. However as we have not formally audited the site it should be considered to be non-compliant until a full audit has been carried out.

We have tested it using automated tools such as WAVE and carried out a basic internal test against these standards.  We are currently assessing whether a more formal accessibility audit is required.

We know that there are some areas which are not yet compliant, and we are actively working to improve them:

  • Some of the older documents on this site are in inaccessible formats (such as Word and PDF files which have not been properly formatted)
  • Some images on the site are diagrams which provide information in the form of visuals that have no text equivalent. We are working to replace these
  • Some videos on the site do not have proper closed captions, but use auto-generated captions which are of a lower quality
  • The cookie plugin we have used can cause some issues for users who move around the site using a keyboard or equivalent; we are working to address this issue
  • Some forms on the site require additional labelling

We welcome feedback on accessibility from all users and encourage these to be reported by email to fcn@dorset.pnn.police.uk.
