The Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes of Practice requires Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARC’s) to achieve UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189.

SARCs play a vital part in supporting victims of sexual assault and provide a safe and secure space for medical examinations & the recovery of forensic evidence.

To help SARC’s meet the regulatory requirements, we’ve set up a National SARC Network which includes subgroups and working groups made up of specialists and experts from the SARC community, including medical professionals, DNA scientists and quality experts.

FCN Quality Specialist & SARC Accreditation Lead Michelle Gaskell said:

“I’d like to invite anyone working towards SARC accreditation to take advantage of this support. There is a lot of work to be done nationally to meet the regulatory requirements, by working together we can overcome these challenges, saving valuable time and resources by working collaboratively and most importantly improve the quality of service to victims of sexual assault.”
